SAFAR-Air 2.0

The SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research) is a project of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, with the distinction of developing India’s inaugural Air Quality Forecasting system for metropolitan cities. The latest iteration of the MobileApp incorporates several enhancements driven by feedback and public demand:

1. Introduction of multi-lingual support including English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati, catering to the diverse linguistic landscape of the SAFAR cities.
2. Inclusion of a voice service feature accessible by tapping the designated speaker icon, enhancing user experience.
3. Integration of detailed advisories and precautions, complemented by an animated Flag boy element. This dynamic character alters the color of the flag from Green to Maroon based on air quality levels. Furthermore, the Flag boy’s expressions change as air quality deteriorates, offering visual cues to users.

We acknowledge concerns regarding service availability limited to these four cities and appreciate the shared sentiment. However, expanding such initiatives necessitates substantial financial investments and time commitments. Each SAFAR station entails significant costs encompassing air quality monitoring systems, weather monitoring systems, high-performance computing infrastructure for forecasting, emission inventory expenditures, outreach initiatives, among others. Projects are prioritized based on various factors. While future expansion remains a consideration, immediate plans for widespread implementation are not on the horizon.
